Our Story

Mom-run eco-friendly small business

Maryam's Story:

My story begins when I was pregnant with my first baby. My husband and I were given the book by Dr. Greene, Raising Baby Green. This book literally changed our lives! We started to become more conscious of every single thing we bought, consumed and especially everything that would be in direct contact with our sweet growing baby. In Dr. Greene's book he highlights the innumerable amounts of chemicals and off-gassing (the release of chemical vapors) constantly happening around us. The paint on the walls, the carpet, the glue holding the furniture together, it seemed as though our whole world was laden with chemicals.  Dr. Greene stresses the importance of buying and filling your baby’s room and home with as many eco-friendly and natural products to hopefully reduce the amount of chemicals your new baby would be exposed to. We made a strong effort to follow his suggestions. He also mentions a list of plants that filter extra chemicals as their inherent job. At the time of reading, I looked up these plants on the web and could not find an easy way of ordering these plants online, let alone with any type of style. With no luck and little time, I gave up on my search and forgot all about it.

Later when we welcomed the precious gift of our new baby boy, a sweet and thoughtful Aunt of mine came over to meet the baby. She brought over a small plant in a charming thrift store ceramic “boot” and welcomed the baby with some “more oxygen!!” I loved it and this plant continues to be near our son’s bed to this day.

A year or so later, a friend of mine had a new baby and I wanted to send her one of those air filtering plants I remembered reading about in Raising Baby Green. Once I again I went on an online search, but this time I tried looking through one of the online flower delivery company's websites. Sadly, I still could not find any plants I liked. They only had flowers that I knew would only last a week or so. Frustrated, I thought how wonderful it would be to have a online website that could send the perfect stylish air-filtering plant as a gift.

This new idea did not come into fruition until a conversation I had with now Co-Founder Jennifer...

Jennifer's Story:

I am no stranger to the effects of the economy, for 4 years I worked for a well-known Staffing Company here in San Diego, so coming from the staffing industry I already knew how hard it would be to enter the world of the unemployed. When I was let go from my job I had the same questions in my mind- that I think we are all asking now. What would I do next, will it be more secure, and will it be something I WANT to do? After looking for several months, I started to think about maybe trying to start a business of my own. And after the good news of my first baby on the way-I was more inspired than ever to try to have a business that would allow me to raise my son. I wanted to be proud of the work that I do and know that I am the creator of my own destiny. I want to be active in the community, be socially responsible and stand for a better way. But the inspiration does not stop there! I wanted to challenge myself to do whatever I could to make these dreams come true, to have a business that would inspire other mothers to create and achieve their own dreams-whatever they may be!

Maryam and I got to talking one day about her idea about plants that clean the air, and how this would be the perfect gift for any occasion! After collaborating with her-I knew we had a great idea!  Green you air products are the perfect business for two mom's trying to make the world a little greener, and raise their children in the cleanest environment possible. We are so excited to share these gifts with you and your families too!  We hope that through our products and the way we do business that people (not just mothers) will feel inspired to do great things themselves, and compelled to support our quest to provide plants to Green your Air!

And Our Story has just begun...
